On Friday Oct 21, 2022 a group of 30 international specialists from 24 Asian, European, African and South American countries visited the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (KIRAMS) to learn about recent breakthroughs in and future plans for the development of advanced radiotherapy techniques as well as new radiopharmaceuticals in Korea. Led by Ms. Selina Horak, Section Head of Radioisotope Products and Radiation Technology, and Dr. Bum Soo Han of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, the international delegation was surprised by the broad range of capabilities KIRAMS has cultivated over decades and its extensive experience in international cooperation and technology transfer. The international visitors were particularly impressed by the Radioisotope Center for Pharmaceuticals which offers researchers the possibility of developing and testing new drugs using state-of-the-art equipment, at a modern facility on par with comparable institutions in Europe and the USA. Dr. Thomas Schaarschmidt, who hosted the seminar, expressed confidence that seminars like this play an important role in sharpening KIRAMS’ profile internationally, fostering global research cooperation and ultimately improving Korea’s reputation as a hub for advanced research.
